I REMEMBER THOSE TRIPS TO THE CHURCH BAZAARS, TRIPS TO THE AMUSEMENT PARKS, THOSE WAVE POOLS WHERE WE SWAM ALL DAY SMILING. THOSE HOME MADE PIZZAS WE MADE, MAKING HAPPY FACES OUT OF THOSE PEPPERONIS. MOMMY, DADDY AND GRANDMA, YOU CREATED A PERFECT WORLD FOR ME AND MY SIBLINGS TO GROW UP IN. WE SMILED, WE LAUGHED, WE CRIED BUT ALL WE EVER KNEW WAS WE HAD NO CARE IN THIS WORLD BECAUSE THE TRUTH WAS, YOU WERE SHIELDING US FROM THE HARSH REALITIES OF SOCIETY AND HOW CRUEL THE OUTSIDE WORLD COULD REALLY BE…
I was raised by a loving family growing up. My siblings and I were of third generation Canadians. My mother, of Chinese, Jamaican descent, My father, of Chinese, Malaysian descent. My siblings and I never noticed color or religion within other people, for my household never pointed this out to us as we were made to be “colorblind” and blind to any ignorance.
All we knew was that we were all human beings, living a dream, trying to get by, trying to live each day as great as we could possibly as humans. Although raised Catholic, my family NEVER pushed us away to being exposed to other cultures and religions within our surroundings.
All my relatives were of some mixed descent and the ONLY thing that I knew of “color” was what color I would choose to draw and paint with each night. We were exposed to many cultures of food growing up as my family knew they were raising a group of third generation kids in North America, and we ate whatever ethnic food was placed on our dinner table each night.
My parents and grandma taught us to be kind children growing up, constantly reminding us consistently that we could have the world in the palm of our hands, we could have all the money in the bank, we could always have all that materialistic shit, but with no COMPASSION in our heart, it was all worthless and life would have no meaning or serve no purpose without having empathy and compassion for other’s well being too. All I knew and was taught over and over was about love, compassion, accepting and being non-judgmental to others, for my family was not clueless and knew we were not perfect too.
As I grew to age, I guess you could say I became more “culture shocked’ Shocked at how others treated others based off their race, sexuality, religious choices, the discrimination that actually surrounded others or was hidden. I recall the first few times racial slurs were used at me, yet I was not offended because truthfully speaking, I had no idea what names I was being called for I was unaware of such ignorance.
As much as I could of allowed such negative ways to impact me or make me grow up with a “chip” on my shoulder. I did not, because I was going home to a surrounding filled with love that taught me better.
One of the lowest blows another human can make to a fellow human is to target qualities that make us all so unique in this complex world. Our religious beliefs, the size and shape we come in, our sexual preferences, or the color of our skin. You can be filled with rage, you can start to hate but why would you allow so energy into your own especially from others that lack much compassion, understanding and LOVE in your heart including their own self love.
Ignorance is used when people fear the unknown, or are insecure of knowing their surroundings naturally causing them to act in such ways. You must see, that these people should never impact your way of life, or allow you to ever change your loving ways. I am sure you are surrounded by much more positive energy then to absorb the negative energy of a nobody who is filled with hate. Truth is, I feel bad for them, I feel terrible that they will never feel the love in their hearts, that many feel surrounded and blessed by. I feel terrible that they will never experience just how beautiful life can be surrounded by so many different beautiful people.
This world is NEVER going to be perfect but it does not mean, we should not continue to spread love and compassion to others regardless of other negative factors on us. I am not excusing people for their stupidity but I do believe if we continue to only think positive and be strong in our ways we can to manifest more positivity in this world in hopes it will fade out the hate that surrounds us each day.
We must pray that these randoms filled with hate and rage, who know no different for they lack, the feeling of LOVE. Some of us unfortunately become our surroundings, they are of their own ignorant upbringings, or have allowed such bull shit to taint their mind sets, therefore leading their lives towards such negativity.
Remember YOU are better, you were raised differently, you were surrounded by LOVE and most importantly you still have LOVE within your heart. Why would you ever allow others to taint or change your morals? your values? and all that you grew up to believing in.
We need to ONLY FOCUS on spreading positive vibes, to love more within our hearts, to be more accepting of differences, or this world would be far too boring if we all looked and acted the same but NEVER forget we are ALL still made up of the human race. We were born with no hate in our hearts, so we must learn to squash ignorance among each other as we DO NOT know what path others walk but most importantly we must always be kind and compassionate to one another because remember, sticks and stones, sticks and stones but names will never hurt us.
I wish I could tell you all we would wake up to world peace. The only thing I can do is choose to live with ONLY LOVE in my HEART which is all I have ever known despite all of our differences.
I am surrounded by many in my life made up of different sizes, different religious beliefs, different sexualities, different hair styles, different shades of color of skin but I am “blind”. I will forever stay “blind” for I was raised to be “blind” to such petty things that did not determine a person’s worth to me. All I have ever known and will forever continue doing, is to “see” by feeling from the HEART.
